Wedding Planning Scholarship Program | Event Experts

The Academy of Wedding and Event Plotting has now launched the Scholarship Program for 2011. This is the first Wedding Plotting Scholarship available in Australia so we are very excited to announce the availability of 4 Scholarship Places for this year.

Wedding Plotting Scholarship

The staff and management at the Academy are always on the lookout for outstanding talent in new and upcoming event planners, stylists and designers. Part of what makes our jobs so much fun is identifying this new talent and rewarding, nuturing and developing it by increasing their learning experience with our scholarship program.

In 2011 we will be offering 4 scholarship places on our Advanced Diploma in Special Event Plotting and Design and entry into the program is any by applying directly through our office or by invitation through your tutor. Scholarship Application forms will be emailed to persons interested in life considered and the student will be questioned to complete some key criteria questions and to submit a proposal as outlined in the application form.

Applications for the Scholarship Program are now open and only students enrolled in the Advanced Diploma may apply. To be eligible you must enrol and pay in full by May 31 and all submission must be emailed into our training office by June 15. The first 2 scholarship places will be announced on July 1 with applications opening again in October for the final 2 positions. In the advent of the Royal Wedding there has never been a better time to reckon about a career in wedding and event plotting as more and more brides turn to wedding planners to help them plot a flawless wedding.

Below you will find details of what is built-in within the Scholarship Program:

Meet the Masters
Meet the Masters' will teach you all the tricks of the trade and give you insider secrets that can't be found in any books or websites.

  • A behind the scenes visit to a prestigious CBD venue. This will be your chance to see first hand what is involved in the plotting process from the venue side of things. You will visit the kitchen, take a full tour and have the opportunity to chat with staff to question any questions you may have.
  • Visit the office of a successful wedding planner and see them in action, learn some industry tips and find out just how un-glamorous life a planner really is.
  • Enter a fantasy world as you look around a design warehouse and learn the secrets on just how the designers take a client's thought and turn it into something incredible.
  • Spend time with a wedding marketing guru who will give you a fool proof plot to help you successfully market your business.
  • Receive a structured guide on how to price yourself effectively in the market and delight in a discussion on what options are available for you.

Event Design Software
Event Designer Space Planner is an interactive tool that makes it simple to make realistic layouts and professional drawings. It will take your design concepts and bring them to life, wowing your clients and winning you more business by allowing them to conceptualise their event – before it happens. It is an brilliant tool for showing your clients how their event will look and also for communicating details to suppliers. Best of all Event Designer uses simple drop and drag technology, making it the most honest-forward tool of its kind on the market.

Internship
Our internship program allows you to apply the skills you have learnt throughout your course in a practical hands-on environment. Each internship is different and can range from a couple of days to a two week period dependant upon availability.
Interns will help with all aspects of design, production, set up and tear down for events, as well as day to day duties assigned. Interns will have hands-on experiences that will provide valuable insight and knowledge of the industry and will be encouraged to question questions and learn about the process.
Skills and Specifications required for an internship

  • Should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and catering to their requirements.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate with suppliers and coordinate work with fellow employees.
  • Should be creative and possess the ability to come up with innovative thoughts.

Mentor Program
Over 3, 1 hour coaching sessions with AAWEP Director Kylie Carlson we will help you to clarify your future marketing activities, plot the growth of your business and teach you how to conduct your own basic marketing activities within the Wedding industry, using both new and traditional media. Upon completion of the Coaching Sessions you will receive a detailed Marketing/PR Action Plot that is specific to your business.

Wedding Planners Tool Kit
Our tool kit includes: articles, checklists and contracts to get you started in your own Wedding Plotting Business and a CD of Wedding Plotting Music

Career Consultation and Resume Review
Chat to one of our specialist wedding career advisors to place collectively a plot for your future. When seeking your first job in the Special Events Industry, your resume and cover letter should set you apart in a job pool filled with candidates with similar backgrounds. Even if you only have internship experience, a well-crafted resume can impress a HR administrator with evidence of your commitment and strength of character.

Wedding and Event Pro Business Package
The Academy has teamed up with Wedding and Event Pro to provide students with an industry based business package that will allow them to hit the ground running upon graduation:

  • 6 month subscription to the 'Wedding Industry Pros'  Online Learning Community (launching June 2011), which includes; 6 issues of the online Wedding & Events Industry Journal, Forums and bi-monthly Webinars.
  • Brainstorm my Business  Session to identify your goals and explore your thoughts.   We will then develop an action plot for you so you have a step by step plot to guide you towards the beginnings of your business; from registering your name, to making a logo, building a website and designing your packages.

3 Complimentary units from the Cert IV in Small Business Management
As part of our partnership agreement with Registered Training Organisation, Quality Training Solutions, we are now able to offer students the opportunity to get a Statement of Attainment from the Certificate IV in Small Business Management, for the later 3 Units of Competency:

  1. Address Customer Needs BSBCUS402A
  2. Undertake small business plotting BSBSMB404A
  3. Market the small business BSBSMB403A

The nationally recognized units are provided through partnering arrangements with the registered training organization, Quality Training Solutions NTIS ID 31622.

The Wedding Planner Experience
Shadow a Wedding Planner for a day  – we will match you up with a Wedding Planner who will give you an opportunity to shadow them on the day of a Wedding.  This will be an invaluable experience and a fantastic addition to your learning experience with the Academy.  You will also be agreed the opportunity to have  20 small briefing with the Planner in the week before the Wedding.
