The admissions office helps people learn about the college and works with students who are in the process of applying. It is also responsible for deciding who will be admitted.

The people who work in the admissions office—the dean, counselors, recruiters, and assistants—can provide you with application forms. They can answer your questions about the college, provide general materials such as viewbooks and CDs, help you set up interviews, and arrange campus tours, open houses, and additional special programs.

Colleges require you to provide different amounts of information when you apply. Commonly, colleges with open admissions require the least amount of information. Selective and competitive colleges question for more materials.

At its simplest, the application form is one or two pages long. This form questions basic questions about your name, address, telephone number, date of birth, race, ethnic background, and residency. It may also question questions bout your high school background and college goals.

Application forms are often available online, and in many cases, you can even provide information online. More selective colleges question for more information. They question you about yourself, your school record, your interests and actions, and your goals in life. They may question you to write essays and to provide standardized test scores, an evaluation from your high school, and recommendations from teachers and others.
