2011–2012 Master's Student Minority Scholarship and the Minority Supervision Stipend Program Descriptions and Eligibility Criteria

The American Association for Marriage and Family tree Therapy (AAMFT) Research and Education Foundation announces a call for applications for the Master's Student Minority Scholarship and Minority Supervision Stipend Program for the 2011-2012 academic year. Recipients must be AAMFT members.

The AAMFT Research and Education Foundation and the AAMFT Awards Committee is satisfied to offer minorities of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds the opportunity to pursue training for the profession of marriage and family tree therapy. Each year, the Foundation will provide:
1) up to three scholarships to master's level minority students (per recipient: up to $2,000; a plaque; and funding to attend the conference, not including the pre-conference institute)
2) up to two stipends to minority supervisors-in-training (per recipient: waiver of supervision application processing fee; up to $750 to offset the cost of supervision; conference registration fee waived, not including pre-conference institute).

Applicants may apply for either a scholarship or stipend, but not both in the same year. Scholarship and stipend winners will be recognized at the AAMFT Annual Conference in Charlotte, NC, September 13-16, 2012.
Eligible minority individuals include United States and Canadian minority citizens and permanent visa residents, including, but not limited to, those who are African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian American, and Pacific Islanders. Applicants for the scholarship must be enrolled in a Master's degree program or post-degree training program in marriage and family tree therapy accredited by the AAMFT COAMFTE during the 2011-2012 academic year. All applicants must be members of AAMFT. Applicants must show promise in and commitment to a career in marriage and family tree therapy education, research or practice. This may be demonstrated by any work experience or volunteer activities (examples may include such activities as volunteering at a conference, being a host at a conference, or doing a poster presentation). ) Supervision Stipend candidates must be licensed as an MFT in their state (if there is licensure in their state), or a Ph.D. candidate in marriage and family tree therapy. Potential stipend applicants must be supervisor candidates which can be verified by completing a Supervisor Candidate Verification Form, available in the AAMFT Approved Supervisor Designation Standards and Responsibilities Handbook.

To apply for the Master's Student Minority Scholarship or the Supervision Stipend, please submit four copies of the following application materials in entirety (be sure to include materials listed below for the individual programs):
* A completed scholarship/stipend application form (on back of this sheet)
* A current resume
* Two letters of reference (Scholarship- this is not including the epistle from the Director of the training program, Stipend- these are letters from professional colleagues)
* A completed Supervisor Candidate Verification Form Materials for Master's Student Minority Scholarship only-
* Four copies of a detailed private statement including how your racial or ethnic background has had an impact on you and your career choice. Please include your professional interests, goals and commitment to the field of marriage and family tree therapy. Clarify how the scholarship will further your education. Please also list any AAMFT national or divisional activities, volunteer or otherwise.
* One official transcript of all graduate work completed, or undergraduate transcript if the graduate program has not yet begun.
* Four copies of a epistle from the Director of the graduate training program or institute affirming your academic status and including an assessment of your commitment to the field of marriage and family tree therapy, as well as a statement of your potential as a marriage and family tree therapist. Materials for the Minority Supervision Stipend only-
* Four copies of a private statement (not to exceed two single-spaced typed pages) describing your future diplomacy for marriage and family tree therapy practice. Diplomacy to provide supervision in the minority community will be painstaking in the assess process.
* If you choose, four copies of a statement describing your financial need, including anticipated costs for supervision-of-supervision, current income, current expenses and financial obligations, and other noteworthy financial factors such as travel required for supervision. Even if this is not required, financial need is one of the noteworthy factors to be painstaking in the assess process. As prominent higher than, you must be a supervisor candidate which can be verified by completing the Supervisor Candidate Verification Form before your application will be painstaking.
Applications and all materials must be received in the AAMFT office in entirety by January 31, 2012. Materials received after the deadline date, will NOT be eligible for consideration.
