Scholarship List

**In order to obtain an application you must complete a Scholarship Request form (which is located in the Guidance Department). All completed request forms must be given to Ms. Stanley to ensure prompt receipt.

 

1.     Name of Scholarship:Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc. Debutante Cotillion

Eligibility Criteria:You must be a graduating senior (female) with a 2.5 grade top average,you must be in excellent standing in the school and community.

Deadline:September 27,2011 (post mark date)

2.     Name of Scholarship:Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution

Eligibility Criteria:You must be a graduating senior. Please see the various scholarships below to obtain specific guidelines:

Virginia DAR Scholarships-you must plot to work headed for an undergraduate degree in a field other than nursing and plot to attend a Virginia college or university.

American History Scholarship- you must plot to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History or American Government in college and plot to attend a Virginia college or university.

Nursing Scholarship- you must plot to continue your education at an accredited Virginia school of nursing.

Deadline:January 16,2011 (on or before)

3.     Name of Scholarship:The Hampton Roads African American Sports Hall of Fame

Eligibility Criteria:You must be a graduating senior. Please see specifics in regards to the various scholarships available below:

Frank Blowe Scholarship- You must demonstrate the highest degree of determination and a commitment to high standards,have a positive self-image and possess the quality of excellent citizenship at school and in the Hampton Roads community.

The Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame- You must be a high school senior at the time of the application;have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better and possess outstanding customer service commitment.

The Williams "Dick" Price Scholarship- You must have participated as a high school varsity sportsperson for at least two years;exhibit the character,motivation and achievement which demonstrate eagerness and speediness for college and need noteworthy external financial help in attaining a college education.

Deadline:October 1,2011

4.     Name of Scholarship:Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,Inc. (Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter)

Eligibility Criteria:You must be a senior with a 2.0 grade top average;plot to attend a college or university,be willing to participate in one activity per month to discuss health,shared and educational issues and pay a non-refundable participation fee of $100.00—due by November 1,2011.

Deadline:October 10,2011

5. Name of Scholarship:The Ron Brown Scholarship

 

Eligibility Requirements:The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make noteworthy contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically,exhibit exceptional leadership potential,participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.

Deadlines:The Ron Brown Scholar Program currently has two deadlines for applications (students must be current high school seniors at the time of their application):

November 1st –application will be painstaking for the Ron Brown Scholar Program AND forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers.

January 9th –final postmarked deadline in order to be painstaking for only the Ron Brown Scholar Program ONLY.

6.     Name of Scholarship:Suntrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes

Eligibility Requirements:Applicant must be a high school senior or undergraduate student. You can start applying for this scholarship online on September 16,2011.

Deadline:May 11,2012,you will need to complete an online application at http://www.suntrusteducation.com/sweeps/

7.     Name of Scholarship:AXA Achievement Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:You must be a senior that is committed in the community implementing projects that help others and have overcome private challenges. You must have a cumulative grade top average on a 4.0 scale.

Deadline:December 1,2011 (you must apply for this scholarship online at www.axa-achievement.com)

8.     Name of Scholarship:The Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Eligibility Criteria: You must be an African American,American Indian/Alaska native,Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American;you must be a U. S. citizen;have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale;will enroll in an accredited college or university in the fall of 2012 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service,extracurricular or other activities.

Deadline:You are encouraged to apply online at http://www.gmsp.org/

by January 11,2012 by 11:59 pm EST;paper applications must be post marked by January 11,2012.

9.   Name of Scholarship:Scholarship from FASFA. Gov
