Since MALDEF's founding, the civil rights organization has awarded scholarships to students who will additional MALDEF's mission of advancing the civil rights of the Latino community in the United States. In recent years, MALDEF has annually awarded 5-10 scholarships of $5,000.

MALDEF's Law School Scholarship Program is open to all law students who will be enrolled at an accredited United States law school in 2011-2012. Applicants are evaluated for their academic and extracurricular achievements, for their background and financial need, and, most significantly, for their demonstrated commitment to advancing Latino civil rights in their careers.

A COMPLETE APPLICATION REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
1. MALDEF Law School Scholarship Application Form, including the Financial Statement Form completed by the Applicant's law school.
2. Current Resume.
3. Personal Statement of 750 words or less, double-spaced, detailing Applicant's academic and extracurricular achievements, background and financial need, record of service to the Latino community, and goals in law.
4. One (1) Letter of Recommendation that highlights Applicant's academic and extracurricular achievements, background and financial need, record of service to the Latino community, and goals in law.
5. Transcripts for college (for all Applicants) and law school (for Applicants who have already completed a year of law school). Unofficial transcripts accepted.
