Overview
A number of Oxford colleges offer Reach Oxford scholarships (formerly Oxford Student Scholarships) to students from developing countries who, for political or financial reasons, or because suitable educational facilities do not continue living, cannot study for a degree in their own countries.

Am I eligible?
Nationality: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Inner African Rep., Chad, Chile, Plates, Colombia, Comoros, Congo, Dem.   • Fee status: Overseas
  • Level of study: Undergraduate
  • Year of study: New students
  • Subject: All subjects except medicine
  • College: To be confirmed

Other criteria: This scheme is only suitable for candidates of the highest academic ability who have outstanding examination results. But, financial need and shared commitment are also major criteria for selection.

What does it cover?

  • Duration: 3 or 4 years depending on course length
  • Value: University fees and college fees, a grant for living expenses and one return air fare per year
  • Number: To be confirmed

How do I apply?
You must make an application to the University through UCAS by 15 October 2011 and be successful in gaining a place. You will then need to complete a separate scholarship application form.

You must also answer the following two questions in the supporting statement of the scholarship application form:

  1. Why are you applying for this scholarship and what impact will it have on your career?
  2. How would you use the education you receive at Oxford for the benefit of your community?

Other information
Scholars will be expected to write an annual report about their academic and shared activities, and achievements at the University.

Receipt of the choice in subsequent years is subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Applicants should be aware that competition for the scheme is very high and the University does not have additional funding for those candidates who are not offered a scholarship.
