Admission to Undergraduate Programs of Tsinghua University 2012 ...
1. Introduction
Tsinghua University offers 38 undergraduate programs to international students (See Appendix for program catalog). The undergraduate programs have a schooling system of 4 years, except that the architecture program requires 5 years. The programs are delivered in Chinese or bilingually in Chinese and English. Single’s degree and graduation certificate are awarded to persons who have refined all the required course work and passed thesis defense.
2. Qualification of Applicants
Foreign citizens under 25 and in excellent health, with:
(1) Certificate of Graduation from senior high school;
(2) Certificate of Chinese Competence Test :HSK Band 6 / new HSK Band 5 or above.
The qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS). The scholarship applications should be directed to the governmental departments of overseas study affairs, the related organizations, or Chinese embassies, in their home countries. The application time is from early January to early April each year.
The applicants who are not able to get CGS support may apply to Tsinghua University for Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) or Tsinghua University Scholarship (TUS), by submitting the Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship.
3. Materials for Application
(1) The completed Foreigner’s Application Form for Admission to Undergraduate Programs of Tsinghua University
(2) Original or notarized photocopies of senior high school certificate and schooling minutes
(3) Certificate of HSK Band 6 (the Band 5 of new HSK and score of each course has to be above 60) or the notarized photocopy
(4) Certificate of expected graduation issued by senior high school (for applicants who will be graduating from senior high school in July 2012)
(5) Three copies of applicant’s recent photo (cap-free, 2-inch size)
(6) Completed Letter of Recommendation from senior high school/the upper classes
(7) A photocopy of passport (pages with photo, visa or residence permit)
(8) For applicants who are studying in a university, additional materials are required, such as schooling minutes, on-going study certificate and recommendation from the university
(9) For applicants under 18, a notarization of guarantors in China is required. The custodian of the student has to be living in Beijing at present. No matter the custodian’s nationality is China or not, he or she must have a source of income.
(10) The completed Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship (if any).
No application materials will be refunded.
4. Application Procedure
Step 1: Complete On-line Application on the website of Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University (http://intlstudent.cic.tsinghua.edu.cn). Print and sign two hard copies of the Application Form produced by the system after all the information submitted is verified.
Step 2: Submit the application materials listed above to Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University, by post mail or in person.
5. Application Schedule
On-line application: March 1 – March16, 2012.
Hardcopies of application materials due: March 19 – March 30, 2012.
6. Entrance Examination
(1) Subjects of Written Examination for Science, Engineering and Management Programs: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.
(2) Subjects of Written Examination for Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Programs: Basic Chinese Foreign language, Chinese Prose, General Knowledge, and English.
(3) Subjects of Written Examination for Arts and Design Programs: Chinese Prose, General Knowledge, Sketch, Quick Sketch, and Color Painting.
Extra exams are requested for some programs: Sketch for Architecture Program, Oral Test for English and Japanese Programs, and Mathematics for Experimental Class of Social Sciences and Psychology.
Interview may also be requested by some department/schools.
7. Date of Entrance Examination
Written Examination: May 12 – 13, 2012
The applicants to be interviewed will be told after written exams.
8. Score Inquiry and Admission See
The applicants may inquire for entrance exam scores and admission status via the On-line Application System on the website of Foreign Student Affairs Office in early June 2012. Admission See, Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202), and Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners will be issued to the admitted applicants in late June 2012.
9. Visa Application and Admission Registration
The admitted applicants should bring their Passport, Admission See, Visa Application Form (JW202), and Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as Blood Test Record to the Delegation or Consulate of the People’s Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X visa). In autumn 2012, the students shall come to Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University for admission registration before the deadline indicated on the Admission See. The X visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit surrounded by 30 days after arriving in China.

Accommodations:
Single rooms, AB rooms, and double rooms are available in foreign student dormitories. RMB 40-80/bed/day (Due to the limitation of dormitory capacity, on-campus rooms can only be reserved for persons who have fruitfully applied on line.
