First Call for Lampman Nominations
Do you know of an Oregon author, librarian or educator who has made a significant contribution to children's literature? Or an individual who has shown exemplary commitment to library service for the subsidy of the children of Oregon? Nominate them for the Evelyn Sibley Lampman Award!

The Evelyn Sibley Lampman Award, open by the Children's Services Division of the Oregon Library Association at the OLA Annual Conference, is given in memory of the noted Oregon teacher, journalist and author of children's books.  Nomination eligibility requirements, instructions for nominations, and more information on the award and the nominating committee can be found on the Children's Services Division pages of the OLA Website .  Nominations for the award will be accepted from Children's Services Division members, OLA members and members of the Lampman Award Committee. Current Lampman Committee members are not eligible to be nominated.

Please send all nomination materials to Josie Hanneman, josieh@deschuteslibrary.org, or PO Box 40, La Pine, OR, 97739.

OLA MLIS Scholarships
The application process is open for Oregon residents enrolled or plotting to enroll in a graduate course of study for the Masters in Library & Information Science degree for the 2012 – 2013 academic year.

Applications from eligible students are sought for over $21,000 in scholarship awards. Current recipients of OLA MLIS scholarships may reapply annually for up to three years of awards.  And it's a statewide program, too: rural applicants or persons plotting to work in rural libraries are welcome to apply.

The scholarship application deadline is March 1, 2012. OLA's Scholarship Program guidelines, eligibility requirements, and the eApplication is available at the Oregon Student Help Commission (OSAC), at www.GetCollegeFunds.org .  You can locate the 2012 – 2013 OSAC Scholarship Catalog by opening the "Apply Here" tab and entering a search for Scholarship Code 471 or for the Oregon Library Association to see all the requirements.

Applicants who submit their applications by February 16 are entered in drawings for $500 Early Bird awards, funded by private donations.  Additional information about the deadlines and more is available at www.GetCollegeFunds.org/deadlines.html

At the OSAC site, you can read about OLA's program, and search the more than 340 additional scholarships OSAC manages. The scholarship application process is confidential, and there is no fee to apply.

The Oregon library Association's MLIS Scholarship Program is supported in whole or part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Oregon State Library, and through the generosity of OLA members who have donated to the scholarship fund. OLA members are encouraged to make donations to support this new OLA initiative by using the MLIS Scholarship Contribution Form at www.olaweb.org in the Membership section.  The Early Bird awards are privately funded.

OLA/OASL Merger
The Oregon Association of School Libraries membership just voted overwhelmingly to support merging with OLA.  OLA members will be questioned to vote on the merger in April of next year.   To learn more about the merger, visit http://data.memberclicks.com/site/ola/OASL-OLA_Merger_Proposal_12_14_10.pdf .  Questions about the merger can be sent to Bob Schroeder at schroedr@pdx.edu .
