Hope Scholarships: Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally, Georgia

As the name suggests "HOPE", Hope scholarships has been helping students to liven up their dreams of pursuing higher education in US. Hope Scholarships provide financial help to students in pursuing bachelors, graduate and diploma courses in public and private organizations. These are merit based scholarships which are basically administered by Georgia Students Finance Commission though it is funded by Georgia Game of chance Fund. These funds cover various scholarships and grants.

Till now Hope scholarship funds has benefited more than 1.2 million students in Georgia with $ 9.3 billion has already been awarded in form of scholarships and grants. Away from each additional from this, only certain institutions are considered by HOPE which are certain as Eligible HOPE institutions. Though Hope scholarships and grants are also available for students from Ineligible Hope Institutions.

Hope Scholarships

Hope Scholarships are provided to students graduating from high schools or completed home study program. In order to apply for the HOPE Scholarship, students from an eligible high school or eligible home study program must have grade top of 3.0. Additional, a HOPE-eligible high school or HOPE-eligible home study program must be accredited by one or more of the accrediting agencies listed by Georgia Student Finance Commission.

To receive Hope scholarship funding for students from ineligible the upper classes, students must be graduate from an ineligible high school, completed an ineligible home study program, or earned a GED, and scored in the national composite 85th percentile or higher on the SAT or ACT tests. Along with above criteria , on  earning 3.0 grade top average on 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college degree-level coursework. This choice allows for payment of the first 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours after they are taken.

Additional students who have earned a 3.0 grade top average at the college level on degree coursework after attempting 30, 60, or 90 semesters' hours or 45, 90, or 135 quarter hours, in any case of high school graduation status can also apply for the same.

Hope Grants

Hope Grants are given to students who are attending certificates or diplomas for technical courses from a eligible institutions in any case of High School grade top. Hope grants covers tuition Fees, Book allowances etc. Students must be legal residents of Georgia and must fit the eligibility requirement for  US citizens and Non US citizens.

Additional Hope Scholarships also covers Zell Miller Scholarship Program  for talented students seeking a college degree. The students must have 3.7 grade top in their high school and minimum score on the SAT/ ACT. This scholarship will pay partial amount of scholarship and also it will depend on school which student is attending.

Hope GED Scholarship-

Hope GED scholarship provides an opportunity to students who have General Education Development Diploma, to avail the scholarships. Under this grant, students will get $500 HOPE awards that can cover tuition, books and additional educational cost.

Away from each additional from the above academic eligibility ariteria for the scholarships and grants, students must have enrolled for the degree course in a Hope eligible universities or institutions. Students must fit the Hope eligibility criteria for Georgia Residency, US residency or non-US residency and has met academic standards. Students can apply for HOPE scholarships through FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or through Georgia Hope Scholarship and Grant Application available on printable or online mode.

Hope scholarship provide an brilliant opportunity for academically talented student to pursue their college education. Earlier, Hope scholarships were targeted to  talented and economically backward students. But later, the ceiling for economically backward students was removed and the scholarship becomes available to all. Thus, these merit based scholarships provide academically brilliant students an brilliant chance to grab a luminous career ahead.
