International Business Scholarships
1. Check Your Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
Currently enrolled in a full-time accredited single's degree at a Canadian public university or college.
In second, third or fourth year (but not final year)
Persistent to full-time post-secondary studies for the 2012-2013 academic year
Enrolled in a program focused on international business, finance, economics, or a combination of these with environmental/sustainability studies.
In brilliant academic standing

Note: employees of EDC and dependents of employees of EDC are not eligible.

2. Key Choice Criteria

Scholarships are awarded by a choice committee who evaluates applications based on the following criteria:

Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career or furthering studies in international business or business combined with environmental or sustainability studies
National or international professional work experience (including internships)
Additional international experience (volunteering, studies abroad and additional)
Demonstrated leadership and team player skills (as reflected in letters of reference, volunteering or extra-curricular actions)
Academic achievement (as reflected in grades and awards received)
Strength of letter of intent
Strength of letters of reference by an academic and a current or former employer
Languages written and spoken

Business experience outside Canada will be considered an asset.
3. What's the Process?

1. Apply online. Applications must be submitted online on or before Monday, January 30, 2012 (23:59:59 EST).

2. Submit by mail any supporting documents which were not submitted online. All mailed supporting documents must be received by Friday, February 10, 2012 (16:00 EST). With the exception of references submitted by the referee, no supporting documents will be accepted by email. Faxes are not accepted.

3. Applications will be reviewed by a choice committee including academic and EDC representatives. Winners will be told of their choice by early April 2012.The financial awards are paid directly to the student at the beginning of the Fall 2012 semester.
4. Supplementary Documents

Supplementary documents can be submitted electronically using the online application form or by mail. With the exception of references and the confirmation of professional work experience abroad form, no supporting documents will be accepted by email.

The following supporting documents are required.

1. LETTER OF INTENT

A statement describing your area(s) of interest and commitment related to international business or business combined with environmental or sustainability studies, and your proposed academic and career path to be successful in a career in this meadow. Also, highlight past/current/intended actions that demonstrate your leadership potential.

Maximum 500 words. Preferred 1.5 spacing and 12pt font.

2. RESUME

An recent version of your resume.

Maximum 3 pages. Preferred 1.5 spacing and 12pt font.

3. TRANSCRIPTS

Official transcript(s) from all postsecondary institutions (university, college, cégep or institute of technology) attended, including the most recent academic term.

You may submit a scanned version (.pdf or .jpg) of your official transcript electronically or question for your university to send an official transcript by mail.
Transcripts must include detailed information on the grading system specific to the postsecondary the upper classes.
We reserve the right to question for the original transcript.
We strongly urge applicants order a recent transcript from their the upper classes well in advance of the application deadline.

4. CITIZENSHIP

A clear scanned copy of official document demonstrating Canadian residency or permanent resident status in Canada.

Examples of official documents include Canadian passport, birth certificate, residency or permanent resident card.
The copy of your official document proving residency or permanent resident status will not be provided to the choice committee but is used to determine eligibility only.

5. REFERENCES

Two references are required:
(1) One academic reference from a professor at your current university
(2) One reference from a current or former employer

An employer reference from an academic will be accepted if the reference refers to paid work, such as a teaching or research supporter role.
Additional references will not be accepted.
Referees must complete the official EDC scholarships reference form. They may attach a one-page letter of recommendation to the official form.

References must be prepared and submitted confidentially. Referees must submit their reference directly to the EDC International Business Scholarships Manager, and can do so by email or mail.
Choice 1: Email the completed reference form (and accompanying letter) to EDC-Scholarships-Bourses@cbie.ca . Theme line should read "Reference for Student First Name Last Name". Acceptable formats are: .doc, .docx, .pdf, .jpg. References submitted by the student via email will not be accepted.
Choice 2: Mail reference form (and accompanying letter) to the address above. Document must be in a sealed envelope with the referee's signature crosswise the flap, and can be submitted by the student.

6. CONFIRMATION OF PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE ABROAD (OPTIONAL)

This form is optional. Additional points are awarded to applicants who have completed professional work experience abroad. To receive these points, EDC recommends you have your international employer complete the employer reference form. If you do not wish to use your international employer as your employer reference, you can have your international employer submit the following form. This form can be submitted by email or by mail (see options 1 and 2 above for references).
