Scholarships

Scholarships are considered merit-based aid. As the name implies, they are awarded based on achievement, recognition and high academic permanent. Scholarship offerings at The College of Idaho include:
The College of Idaho Heritage Scholarship

The College of Idaho Heritage Scholarship will be a $20,600 scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. Students can renew the scholarship for up to four years if the minimum GPA of 3.25 is maintained and the student participates in at least 20 hours of community service each month.
Qualifications

1. To be eligible to apply for the Heritage Scholar program a student will need to meet the later academic criteria;
1. Have 3.85 GPA at the end of their sixth semester in high school and*
2. Have a minimum of a 31 ACT composite or
3. Have a minimum of a 1380 on the SAT (Critical Reading and Math)
2. Each applicant for the Heritage Scholar program will need to complete an application for admission and be accepted at The College of Idaho former to life invited to come to campus to interview to be a part of the Heritage Scholar Program.
3. Each applicant will also need to complete an essay of 750-1000 words, describing how a specific experience which you have had in the last few years was beneficial to you or your community.
4. Each Heritage Scholar candidate will need to have their parents complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Centralized Student Help) and make sure the FAFSA information is sent to The College of Idaho. We encourage you to submit the FAFSA as early as possible after January 1st.

Students will need to be accepted for admissions, meet all of the above criteria and be invited to participate in the Heritage Scholar competition. In order for a student to be invited to compete for the Heritage Scholar Program you will need to complete your application for admission, be accepted and submit your Heritage Scholar essay and have all of this completed as early as possible in order to be invited to interview for the scholarship former to the end of February. All candidates will be reviewed in late February and winners will be announced in early March.

* GPA's are based on a 4.0 extent and SAT scores are based on the critical reading and math sections of the SAT
Kathryn Albertson Scholarship Competition

The Kathryn Albertson Scholarship Comptetition occurs each November. Students can compete in an academic area of their choosing. They can also choose to compete in the fine arts, such as Theatre, Music or Art. The College awards approximately 30 $10,000 scholarships every year.
Additional Scholarships
First Year Students

The College of Idaho offers a variety of scholarships. Talent-based scholarships are available in debate, music, art, theatre and athletics. Students are also eligible for merit-based scholarships based on academic record and test scores.
Transfer Students

Scholarships for transfer students range from the $2,000 The College of Idaho Grant to the $6,000 Presidential Scholarship each year.
International Students

Based on Academic record, international students may qualify for scholarships that range from $8,000 up to $12,000 each year.
Availability

All C of I scholarships are available to both Idaho and non-Idaho residents and most are renewable each year as long as the recipient remains in excellent permanent and maintains the scholarship requirements. The application for admission and the C of I scholarship application are used to determine eligibility for all scholarships based on high school GPA, standardized test scores, activities and strength of academic record.

ART:

1. Students must submit a digital portfolio on a CD of a minimum of 10 images of their artworks (.jpegs) 1 week former to their campus visit. Artworks in digital portfolio can be any 2-D or 3-D media or combinations of both. The art should if at all possible have been made during the last one-to-two years. Title, standard, date and dimensions of work must be supplied. The digital portfolio (CD) will be retained by the department. Students are encouraged to bring actual artwork when they come for their campus visit.
2. The digital portfolio must also include a statement (between 300-400 words), which addresses the student's involvement in art. This statement may maybe cover, but is not limited to, topics such as preferred art media or significant themes in their artwork, awards and honors, career plans in the arts, additional interests that relate to their art making (e.g. creative writing) art-making skills they hope to buy while studying at the College. or what they hope to accomplish by studying at the college.
3. Faculty will review the digital portfolio and statement with the student during the interview.

MUSIC:

Admission to the music program and Scholarship awards will be based on such items as preparation, tone quality, stage presence, musicianship, and the makings for further growth. Students should demonstrate openness to learning, an interest in growing, and a specific desire to concentrate The College of Idaho.
Please submit or bring with you the later:

1. Names of teachers/instructors with whom you have considered or know your music ability, their address and phone number.
2. A resumé listing the number of years of musical training (vocal and
or/or instrumental)
3. A list of solo literature you considered, and a statement describing your musical interests and goals.

Auditions will be held on the C of I campus. Scholarships for the department of Music are highly competitive and are awarded on the basis of music the makings and evidence of dedicated work. Call the Music Department at (208-459-5275) to schedule your personal audition appointment.

1. Voice – Students are questioned to prepare two art songs or arias of distinct styles, tempos, or languages. Both songs may be sung in English. One of the songs may be from the jazz, folk or musical theatre genre.
2. Keyboard – (Piano, Organ) Prepare two compositions from distinct periods, one performed from memory.
3. Instrumental – (Winds, Percussion, Strings) Play two etudes or solos from the standard literature that demonstrate technical ability and musicianship. Percussionists will be questioned to play several rudiments on the snare drum. Thread students should have a three-octave major extent ready to demonstrate intonation and tone quality.

THEATRE:

The theater arts:

1. Please bring a brief resumé with you which lists:
* Productions in which you have appeared and the specific roles played
* Place where the production was produced (name of school, etc)
* Additional positions held in theatre productions (technical crew, stage administrator, publicity, etc)
* Any awards or honors received for your work
2. Prepare and memorize two monologues. They should be distinct in mood and stylishness (i.e.: if you have a serious classical piece also have a comic contemporary piece)
The guidelines include:
1. One classical (preferable Shakespeare)
2. One contemporary
3. Pieces should be from acceptable, published works (no stand-up routines, screenplays or first works)
4. Each monologue should last approximately 1 small.

Design/Technical:

1. Please bring a brief resumé with you which list:
* Productions in which you have been responsible for an aspect of design (set, costume, lights, etc)
* Specific work performed
* Place where the production was produced (name of school or community organization, etc)
* A portfolio containing examples, photos or drawings of your designs and the finished product
* Any awards or honors received for your work

Playwriting:

1. Please bring:
* A portfolio containing samples of your writing (drafts as well as finished scripts)
* If your work has been produced, please bring photos or programs, etc. from the production(s).
* Place where the production was produced (name of school or community organization, etc)
* Any awards or honors received for your work

DEBATE:

1. Students must bring a Speech and Debate resumé detailing all of their activities and awards in speech, debate, theatre and any additional performance art.
2. Students will also be questioned to present a 5 to 10 small speech that they have used in competition.
