2011 Scholarship Recipient BBQ - Tech is good.

2011 Scholarship Recipient BBQ - Tech is good.

Tech is excellent's first several months have gone something like this: Initiation scholarship criteria? Check. Work with schools to find scholarship applicants? Check.  Form scholarship committees to select recipients? Check. Recognize scholarship recipients at school awards nights?  Check.  Have an on-field presentation to be recognized at a Reno Aces game? Double check.  Choice campus bundles to scholarship winners? Nearly check!

It has been a busy year for TIG, and as summer winds down, our students will soon be freshmen at UNR, TMCC, and Sierra Nevada College.  It's a very exciting time for all of us, and to perfect the next step on our checklist (giving out Campus Bundles), we hosted a BBQ for our students and their families at our office.  We thought it would be cool for our students' families to meet us in a more casual background to see who we are and where we live, so to speak.  It's also vital to us that Tech is excellent is different than the average scholarship provider, and we wanted our students and their families to really know our goal.  We don't want to give students monetary and equipment scholarships and then never see or hear from them again.  We plot to keep in touch with our students and offer support and mentoring in any way we can throughout their college career.  We will schedule check points during the semester, and we will host another event in December (after finals!) to get our students collectively.

So, after a trip to Costco, we were completely stocked with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and cake. (Yes, those balloons were all frosting.)  I had everyone's InCase backpacks lined up with a new mouse and an acrylic tumbler inside, and I had branded all the laptops with a TIG sticker.  Grill Master Seth Stell was at it again doing the hard labor (I poured chips into bowls and stuck spoons in potato and fruit salads), and we were ready to go.  The best part was that everyone made it!  Some had to place early, and some had to come late, but everyone was here.  Many families stayed and mingled and got to know each other, and the students were able to connect to one another in a more social background.  Seeing the smiles on their faces as they saw their Campus Bundles was exceptionally rewarding.  Making an impact in deserving students' lives is why we started this to start with, and their excitement in this area the upcoming weeks was contagious.

I can't wait to see what is in store for our scholars over the next coming months!  Hopefully we will have some updates from them during the semester as they initiation this next chapter in their lives.  We are exceptionally proud of them and everything Tech is excellent has accomplished in its first few months!  What a ride.  Let's keep it vacant.
